Freak Accident

One week ago today, we returned home from the store, Evan jumped out of the van to open the gate to our property and while pushing it open the lock swung around and clocked him in the head.

At first as I watched the horror unfold I thought my son had simply given himself a nice goose egg until I saw the crimson streak running down his face.

He took off running to the house while Jed pulled the van into the driveway, I hopped out following Evan, heading to the bathroom to fulfill one of my many rolls as a mom, nurse.

Grisly.  I cleaned it and tried to bandage it but even a butterfly wouldn't hold it together.  After conferring with Jamie and Joy, I headed off to Centra-Care with my two eldest.

We didn't wait as long I expected but every moment was another minute he had to think about the dreaded stitches he though he'd get.

When the doc said, he'd glue it instead, Evan was delighted!  However I didn't think about the fact that that meant when they washed it and scrubbed the clots away that there wouldn't be any pain relief.  It was brutal but Evan handled it like a champ.

Afterwards we went out for treats, he requested, candy and a powerade.

Responsibility

Seth: "Having our own chicks is so much fun!"

Evan: "I know we finally have our very own responsibilities to take care of!"

Seth: "I like to play with mine."

Motivation

This is what happens when Evan and Seth want to earn extra gaming time.

Floors swept and counters tidied.

Dining room table, cleared, wiped and arranged.

And this.
 Look at that pillow placement!!
Needless to say, they were playing DS before bed.

100 Month Birthday

I think he was in Kindergarten when it started. I was telling someone how old one of the little guys was in months when Evan asked, "How many months am I?"

So began the count to 100 months.

And as it turned out, his bike broke a couple weeks before his "birthday" so we decided it was the perfect time to get him a new one!

Isla and I went on a girl's shopping trip to pick up Evan's bike.  I didn't think through how I was going to walk the bike and carry Isla to the front of the store. It was a long, tedious walk but we made it!

Then as we were leaving, a huge rain storm unleashed its fury.  Being trapped in Walmart is one of my worst nightmares.

But it was all worth it, the next day when we gave it to him.  Jed surprised Evan when he came home from work and rode it through the backdoor.

At last they can ride bikes together again!

They're ready to roll!

I asked Evan if he wanted something other than cake for his birthday dessert but his only request was that it be homemade.  I guess some of my kids still like cake!

Ford wanted to make sure everyone knew who the birthday boy was so he pointed at Evan while we sang.  :)

Happy 100 Months Evan!!

We love you and are looking forward to the next 100!
And of course he's already calculated the month and year of his 200 month birthday!

Back seat of the Van Convo

Evan: Kane why do you still suck your thumb, you're almost four!

Kane: I just like it Evan.

Evan: Well, you should stop, I stopped sucking my thumb before I turned three...

Seth: Evan, you never sucked your thumb.

Evan: Oh yeah.

4 Brothers and a Tree Frog

Big brother caught a tree frog.
After much begging he gave little brother a turn holding it.
 SURPRISE!
 Tree frogs jump!
That was scary and fun!
Tree frogs also crawl.
After much begging the little brother gives the littler brother a turn.
Littler brother is nervous and excited.
Littler brother warms up to tree frog.
Littler brother offers littlest brother a turn.
You're crazy if you think I'm touching that thing!

Holy Moses

For the end of school program last night, the boy's school put on a play/musical.

Usually only fifth graders and up get a part in the play (for maturity reasons) but they had a part that needed to be filled by someone small.

The director met with all the Kindergarteners (all 3 of them) and because Seth could follow instructions (the first time) he was given the part of Baby Moses!  We're so proud of him.

Evan was in the choir and despite his momma's attempts at distracting him, to make him smile, he was focused on his lyrics and hand motions!

All the kids did a fantastic job and it was a joy to watch!

First and Last

Today was the last day of school!  I took pictures of the boys on their way out the door so I could see how they've changed since their first day.

Seth on the first day of school.

Seth on the last day of school!

Evan on the first day of school.

Evan on the last day of school!

Both on the first.

Both on the last day!

They must love each other more now because I only have pictures of them hugging on the last day of school. :)

 Group shot on the first.

Group shot on the last.  Now Ford is old enough to join in, even if he really didn't want to and isn't dressed appropriately!

The Lesser Known; Abengers

According to Evan, Seth and Kane this superhero group is made up of, Thorn, that one girl, The Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America and Hot Guy.

Apparently Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America are pulling double duty with the Abengers and the Avengers. Impressive, even for superheroes.

Campin With Evan

Playin ball as often as possible. He has gotten really good at handling the soccer ball these days and isn't too bad catching the football or hitting a baseball.

Loving the new responsibility of taking the dogs for walks.

Hiding in the camper, on a chilly night, coloring in his new Phineas and Ferb activity book.  The kid doesn't like to be cold!

Surprise!

For Evan's birthday we surprised him with a new (to us) bike and a trip for him and Seth to the zoo to do the zip line course!   At first I told the boys we were just going to the zoo but when we got there I made the big announcement.

Kane and I followed them on the ground through the course, encouraging them when they were scared or became tangled in their harnesses.  It was awesome to watch them make their way through getting better and faster.  Seth's height put him at a slight disadvantage (something I can relate to), he had to reach on his tiptoes to clip on and off of the safety line at the beginning and end of each obstacle, it slowed him down drastically but he was a trooper!  Evan on the other hand flew through the course.

At one point Kane had to pee which was a small problem as I was not allowed to leave the other two alone nor could I get them down off the course for a bathroom break.  I tried to convince him to hold it but he's three so we eventually found a somewhat secluded area with lots of bushes and he went potty.  Ya gotta do, what ya gotta do!

We followed that up with dinner at Five Guys, he changed his mind about his crab dinner after I explained that that meant we wouldn't be going out to a restaurant.  He quickly chose his favorite burger joint instead.   Last but not least we enjoyed our traditional doughnut cake.

Happy Birthday Evan!

Earlier this week while getting the boys ready for school, Jed asked Evan what he wanted for his birthday.  Evan responded with one simple word, "Food."  Later I asked him what "food" he wanted specifically for his birthday dinner to which he said, "CRAB, lots and lots of crab."

He and my dad would have gotten along really well.

That same day was his class birthday party. I brought in cupcakes and a few decorations.

A very special 7 year old!

Green is his favorite color and thankfully with a birthday so close to Christmas the bakery always has green cupcakes in stock!

While I wasn't looking someone took a big swipe of their big brother's frosting!

Yum!

Poor Kane, he took the lose well.

Boys and girls really are different. :)

Doodles enjoying his snowman cupcake!
